David MacWilliams

David MacWilliams is a senior case manager. He is a graduate from the University of Delaware, class of 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Latin American Culture. After 7 1/2 years with Travelers’ Insurance Company as a field Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor also doing medical management, he entered the legal field full time in Ocala, Florida. After 12 years with another practice where he specialized in medical analysis and litigation case preparation applicable to Social Security Disability, personal injury, and workers' compensation, he joined the Coye Law Firm in 2007. He speaks, reads, and writes fluent Spanish. Dave and his wife of 36 years have two sons, and family life is very important to them. He enjoys ethnic cooking and is an active member of the Marion County Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT).

 Ursula Remy

Ursula Remy is a case manager. She was born in Lima, Peru and moved to the United States when she was 3 years old. Since her family relocated to the United States, she has lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas and Florida. Ursula graduated from Timber Creek High School in Orlando, Florida. She held the position of assistant editor for the Timber Creek Tribune her senior year and was also vice president of the Quill and Scroll Honor Society. An active member of several school clubs, Ursula participated in the Minority Student Union, BETA club, National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and Psychology club. She was also a member of the Timber Creek choir. Ursula is a graduate from the University of Central Florida, where she majored in Legal Studies and minored in Criminal Justice. She is currently seeking her Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. Ursula is a 5th grade CCD teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and has volunteered for 7th grade Junior Achievement through UCF. She is also a volunteer for the Longwood Police Department in the Crime Analysis and Community Relations department. Ursula is fluent in Spanish and English and has been with the Coye Law Firm since August 2008, working in the personal injury department. She and her husband were married in the summer of 2011. Ursula is also the proud parent of her five-year-old son, Tristen Raphael.

Valeria Coll

Valeria Coll, 24, was born in Venezuela and moved to the United States when she was five years old. She attended Fort Myers High where she obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma, was producer of the school's morning news show, and an active member of National Honor Society and Rho Kappa. She graduated from the University of Central Florida in the top 10% of her class in August 2010, with a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in management of human resources. She was involved with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the National Society of Leadership and Success, also known as Sigma Alpha Pi. Valeria plans on going to law school, but is taking some time off before she begins work towards a Juris Doctor at the University of Miami, Florida International University, or the University of Florida. She is currently in the process of applying and completed the LSAT exam summer 2011. Employment law interests her most, but Valeria may also pursue criminal law. Her long-term goals include working for the EEOC and beginning her own practice in Miami. Valeria enjoys helping people; not only is she becoming a lawyer to do so, but she also volunteers for local organizations such as the YMCA. She has volunteered for local politicians before and plans to do so again in the upcoming election year. Valeria speaks Spanish, English, and a little French. She enjoys spending time with friends, working out, going to the beach, and traveling to exotic destinations at least once a year.

Christina Cisney

Christina Cisney, 24, was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. Before gaining an interest in law, Christina wanted to be a physician’s assistant, which led her to apply and become accepted into the medical magnet program at Apopka High School located just outside of Orlando, Florida. She previously attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee where she was studying health care administration with hopes to attend medical school. Her passion for helping people is what led her down the health care field, but realized later that she could do just as much help while practicing law so she decided to move back to Orlando. She is currently a legal studies major at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating in December of 2011. Christina is not sure what type of law she would like to practice in the future, but environmental law and animal rights have always sparked an interest in her. During her high school years Christina was an active member of the Beta Club and the Young Republicans. She continued being active while attending Lee University by joining Pi Kappa Pi, a social service club on campus. At the University of Central Florida she continues to volunteer at an animal shelter whenever she has free time. Christina is waiting until she graduates to start studying and take her L.S.A.T. entrance exam for law school. She would like to stay local and attend law programs at Barry University or Stetson University. During this time she would also like to work for a law firm so that she can gain real world experience in a law office so that she is better prepared for the demands and challenges that law school brings. When she is not working Christina enjoys spending time with her dogs, going to the beach, biking, and relaxing with her family and friends.

Erin Garlow


Erin Garlow, 25, was born in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Florida in 1994, where she has remained since. She attended Spanish River High School in Boca Raton and had numerous accomplishments with academic clubs. A member of FBLA and DECA, she competed and won high honors in some of the regional, state, and international competitions. Erin went on to the University of Central Florida after graduating from high school. She graduated from UCF in the spring of 2010 and majored in accounting with a minor in political science/pre law. She was a member of Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary accounting organization, and a special advisor to the software workshop committee. Before she came to the Coye Law Firm, Erin worked on a CleanTech project commissioned by Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty. The project was a joint venture between Orange County's economic development office and the UCF Institute for Economic Competitiveness and it aimed to examine the potential benefits of using clean technology in Orlando. Erin is continuing her studies at UCF in the Masters of Business Administration graduate degree program which she will complete in Spring 2012 while she gains experience as the Coye Law Firm's Controller. Erin is excited to see where a business degree will take her and has ambitions to apply her education wherever opportunities present themselves. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, cooking, and baking. 

Miriam Thornton

Miriam ThorntonMiriam Thornton, 22, transactional law clerk, was born in upstate New York, the middle of 3 girls. Her family moved to Florida when she was 7 years old where grew up playing soccer. In high school, she coached local youth teams. During high school she was very active in her church, including singing in the choir and participating in a mission trip to Jamaica to build a church. She was also a member of National Honor Society. The last two years of high school, Miriam took advantage of the dual-enrollment program between Tavares High School and Lake Sumter Community College, and had finished her AA degree by the same time as her high school graduation.She was 17 years old when she graduated suma cum laude of her high school class and magna cum laude in her class at Lake Sumter. To complete her undergraduate studies, Miriam attended Florida State University and majored in English literature with a minor in psychology. She continued coaching youth soccer in her spare time, and graduated magna cum laude at the age of 19. Miriam continued on at Florida State University's College of Law and is currently a third year law student. In the summer of 2010 she spent 3 weeks backpacking through France, Italy, and Wales before spending the summer semester studying at Oxford Law. She is also a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity and the international law society. After her expected graduation in Spring 2012, Miriam plans to stay in Florida and specialize her future legal practice in business and transactional law. She loves researching the details of cases and is enjoying her duties to that effect in our transactional department. In her rare spare time, Miriam enjoys running, reading, and baking.

JR Alvarez

Born in Augadilla, Puerto Rico, JR and his family moved to New York City when he was eight years old. JR spent the next period of his life in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended high school and Kingsborough College to receive his Associates of science in paralegal studies. After completion of this degree, JR worked for several prominent law firms throughout the city, as an intern, case manager, legal clerk, and paralegal. He became experienced in handling cases pertaining to corporate mergers, civil litigation, personal injury, and worker’s compensation. In the 1990’s JR moved to Florida and re-enrolled at Valencia Community College to receive a secondary Associates in business administration. He continued the legal work he enjoys at various law firms as a paralegal and an office administrator. This experience allowed him to expand his legal knowledge with practices involved in mass torts, insurance defense, criminal law, personal injury, and more. During his time at various law offices JR has conducted seminars with the Hispanic community about personal auto insurance rights and understanding of basic coverage and frequently asked questions. He is also a father of four. He has one son who is a clinical psychologist and one who is a local musician. His daughter is studying business administration at the University of Central Florida and his youngest son is completing high school. JR has volunteered with the Hispanic Association of Orlando and as the ministry leader for the south east region of the boys’ ministry at his religious organization. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, including returning to Puerto Rico and New York City to visit family and road trips around the country. He also enjoys visiting the beach with his family, swimming, bicycling, and salsa dancing.

 


Assistant Case Managers 

Sanessa Griffiths

Sanessa Griffiths, 21, is originally from New Jersey. She moved to Florida when she was eight years old with her family. Her parents have roots in Kingston, Jamaica. During her high school years at Forest Lake Academy, she was her class treasurer and secretary as well as a member of the National Honor Society. After graduating with an honors diploma, she began college at the University of Central Florida. She is currently a senior double-majoring in legal studies and political science with a minor in business. She is very active in extracurricular activities on campus, most notably as President for UCF's chapter of National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She volunteers with a group that feeds the homeless in downtown Orlando and began work as a volunteer mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Sanessa became interested in law as a means to help people  and has ambitions to be a corporate lawyer. She has yet to choose a dream law school, but would like to live and learn in the Washington D.C. area when that time comes after her graduation from UCF in spring 2012. In her spare time, Sanessa likes to watch movies, work out, and spend time with friends.   

Ivelis Quinones

Ivelis Quinones, 21, is from Orlando, Florida. She attended the Orlando Lutheran Academy, where her achievements were both academic and athletic. Ivelis was on the varsity basketball, volleyball, and softball teams in addition to her membership in the National Honor Society and being named Student of the Year. Upon her graduation in 2008, she was named class valedictorian and given an honors diploma. Ivelis graduated from the University of Central Florida in spring 2012 with her BS in legal studies and a minor in criminal justice. In August 2011 she became the proud mother of a beautiful daughter, Genesis Selena. In fall 2012 Ivy plans to attend Florida A&M University College of law where she would like to specialize in criminal and family law. After she gets experience as a state and defense attorney, Ivelis wants to start her own firm with criminal and family law to her preferred practice areas. She likes to spend time with the people she considers some of her biggest influences--her friends and family, especially her newborn daughter--as well as go to the beach and watch movies in her spare time.
