Our interns assist attorneys and case managers in areas of workers' compensation claims, employee rights, social security disability, personal injuries, construction laws, real estate, car accident injuries, foreclosure defense, estate planning, USERRA discrimination, and many more.
Samuel Meshulam
Samuel Meshulam, 21, and his family are originally from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. His father works in the insurance field, while his mother helps to facilitate employee management and communication through her career in human resources. Sam also has a little sister who wants to become a veterinarian. He graduated from Suncoast High School in Rivera Beach, Florida. Sam was in the top interdisciplinary magnet program, president of the Young Democrats Club, and on the bowling team while at Suncoast. In fall 2009, he moved to Orlando to start work on his business degree at the University of Central Florida. Sam's interest in bowling led him to become the vice president of UCF's bowling club. He joined Tau Kappa Epsilon at UCF in spring 2010 and was elected President in spring 2012. He plans on graduating in spring 2013 and wants to go to law school, although he hasn't decided which one yet. When he isn't working or doing school work, Sam likes to relax and hang out with friends.
Brooke Cushman
Brooke Cushman, 20, was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland and moved to Florida with her family at age 7. While attending Melbourne High School she was on the volleyball team for four years, involved in the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America, and graduated with Honors in the top percentage of her class. For three years she was President of the Academy of Business and Finance as well as the secretary of her class two years and senior class Vice President. She has continued that high level of ambition and involved schedule at UCF where she is currently a junior majoring in Accounting with a minor in Legal Studies. At UCF she is involved in multiple academic and community organizations including the LEAD Scholars program, the sorority Alpha Delta Pi, and is on the executive board for UKnighted4ACure as a Survivor Director. In addition, she spends her time giving to the community by volunteering with a half-dozen organizations including the Ronald McDonald House, Knights Give Back, and VolunteerUCF. After graduation in spring 2013, her plan is to attend law school and she strives to be accepted to University of Pennsylvania Law School, but is still deciding which area of law in which to specialize. In her free time, she enjoys reading or watching movies, spending time with friends and family, and activities outside, especially at the beach.
Diana Abreu
Diana Abreu, 21, is a native of Brooklyn, New York with family heritage from the Dominican Republic. The youngest of three children and the only girl, she remains close-knit with her entire family. Diana attended EBC Bushwick High School in New York for two years, where she volunteered as a peer tutor at a local church. In 2005 when her family relocated to Florida during her high school study, Diana continued her dedication to helping others by volunteering the Make a Wish Foundation her junior year. Her senior year she began gaining valuable employment experience in business management, which has continued while she studies at the University of Central Florida. Diana is a junior working toward her bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in business studies, and has currently shifted her focus toward increasing her experience in the legal field. In her time at UCF Diana has been nominated to join Delta Epsilon Iota, Phi Theta Kappa, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. After her scheduled graduation date in fall of 2012, Diana plans to attend either law school to study immigration law specifically, or to pursue an MBA at graduate school. If she does not continue into a graduate program at UCF she is considering either New York or Miami, although she is undecided which schools. In her spare time between studying and working, Diana enjoys spending time with her familiy and friends, and going to the movies, shopping, and working out.
Emily Haslam
Emily Haslam, 21, grew up locally in Winter Springs, Florida. She graduated from Winter Springs High School, where she played four years of Varsity soccer as well as excelled on the debate team. Emily was state champion and a national high school debate competitor. She began taking Advanced Placement classes her sophomore year of high school, and enrolled in college full-time at Seminole State College after graduation. At Seminole State, she earned her AA from the honors college in 3 semesters, and was copyeditor for the school newspaper. Emily transferred to University of Central Florida to pursue her BS in legal studies, and graduates in spring 2012. At UCF, Emily has been a member of Junior Achievement, and plays soccer through an intramural program as well as an indoor league. After graduation, she plans to apply to law school and has a directed interest toward international law. Emily’s love of travel is inspiring her to explore all law school options around the country, including Boston University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Denver. Emily aspires to use an education in international law to work for a human rights organization overseas, combating human rights violations such as human trafficking and warzone atrocities. She was privleged to spend time in Cambodia this summer working with organizations against human trafficking there and in Vietnam. She is also a nanny for two little girls in addition to school and legal study, so she doesn’t have much spare time. When she does get an extra moment, she enjoys rock-climbing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
Luis Perez
Luis Perez, 20, was born in Hollywood Florida and grew up in Miramar. While a student at Everglades High School Luis was very active in school activities. In addition to being a member in the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society, and the Student Government Association, Luis was also in the top 10% of his graduating class. Currently at University of Central Florida, Luis is maintaining his studious habits as a legal studies major. He is specializing in criminal law, with a minor in criminal justice and a certificate in crime scene investigation. He will be applying for the trial team next semester. Luis is planning to attend law school after his graduation from UCF in winter 2012. His dream would be to attend an Ivy league school such as Yale, but he is also excited about in-state law schools, including University of Florida and Florida State University. Luis plans to specialize in criminal law, and is thinking of pursuing a career as a district attorney and eventually a judge. Luis also volunteers at the daycare at his church, and enjoys attending local lectures, seminars, and appearances of politicians. In his spare time, Luis is an avid movie-goer and enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
Jackie Hogston
Jackie, 21, is locally born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She attended University High School where she completed the International Baccalaureate program. Jackie also served as the Secretary for her senior class, and competed with the UHS Winter Guard dance team, which went to the World Championships three times. Jackie is currently a junior at the University of Central Florida, scheduled to graduate in spring 2013. She is completing her degree in Event Management, with minors in legal studies and sports business management. At UCF, Jackie has been involved in numerous volunteer events, including Relay for Life, events with the Sports Business Club, and KnightThon, a dance marathon for Children’s Miracle Network. In addition, Jackie is an active member of the College Republicans and participates in intramural sports. She is planning to attend a local law school such as Stetson University, the Dwane O. Andreas School of Law at Barry University, or the FAMU College of Law, so that she can remain in Orlando, close to family and friends. Jackie would like to study contract law negotiations in law school, and possibly look into sports contracts and business management to incorporate those undergraduate studies. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys visiting local attractions such as Disney, trying new restaurants, playing soccer, and going to the movies.
Shane Bryan
Shane Bryan, 19, grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, attending Coral Springs Charter School. He was an active participant of his community in high school, serving as the secretary for the National Honor Society and as class Vice President. As a member of the Anti-Defamation League’s National Youth Leadership Mission, he assisted in organizing a walk-a-thon to foster diversity in the community. Shane also volunteered with the Broward County Teen Court where he served as a juror in juvenile cases, as well as played soccer and hockey, and running track. Academically, Shane was recognized for achievements in social studies, took several AP classes, and graduated in the top 10% of his class. Currently a junior at the University of Central Florida, Shane is majoring in legal studies with a minor in political science. He has been a member of the President’s honor roll at UCF for the past four semesters. Shane is a dedicated member of Volunteer UCF and serves as the President of the National Black Law Students Association. Shane’s family is of Jamaican heritage, and he is a member of the Caribbean Students' Association as well. He is planning to attend law school after graduation, and is currently exploring options both locally and around the country. In his spare time he enjoys reading, relaxing with friends and family, and working out.
Jorge Gomez
Jorge, 21, was born in Cali, Columbia and moved to the United States in 1999. He grew up in Cape Coral, Florida, where he attended Cape Coral High School, graduating summa cum laude with his International Baccalaureate diploma and a weighted 4.93 GPA. His interests and activities during high school were varied and included serving as the Secretary of State, Vice President, and President of the Youth Government. He also worked in three local electoral campaigns as well as for the 2008 National Democratic Party’s “Organizing for America.” He was very involved in his church organization, serving as a worship leader from 2006-2009, as well as organizing youth events. Jorge currently attends the University of Central Florida to complete his Bachelor’s degree in political science with a focus in American policy, and his degree will also include a minor in public administration. He continues to remain very active in the political field, including serving as a member of the UCF College Democrats and the Student Advocacy Council. He also volunteers in various projects and community outreach programs both through UCF and his church. Upon his graduation in spring 2013 Jorge is debating whether to continue his education through graduate school or law school, with the College of Law at the University of Florida as one of his top local choices, and Yale Law as his dream. He is applying for a legislative assistant internship in Tallahassee after his graduation, and plans to continue being involved in policy making and governmental function long-term. When not actively engaged in one of his numerous duties, Jorge enjoys spending his down-time playing soccer, working out, and singing and playing guitar in his church.
Lauren Amberson
Lauren Amberson, 21, is a Florida native from Gulf Breeze. She graduated Gulf Breeze High School where she was active in many aspects of theater productions, including both on-stage performance and backstage technical work. Lauren was an active member of the Student Government Association and graduated with honors in both drama and stagecraft. Currently a student at the University of Central Florida, Lauren is majoring in psychology with certificates in victim advocacy and criminal profiling. She is very active in UCF organizations, including acting as the music director of a female a cappella group, the marketing director for the a cappella organization, and an alumnus of LEAD Scholars. She is a recipient of academic scholarships from both Bright Futures and LEAD Scholars. Through LEAD Scholars she has been involved in several volunteer events with the arboretum and pet rescues, and is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the pre-law fraternity. After her graduation in spring 2013 Lauren plans to attend law school, although she is keeping her options open for where she will study and what her specialization will be. She is interested in both environmental law and criminal law, and is considering a career as a public defender to help those who deserve excellent legal services but may not be able to afford them. Lauren is also interested in participating in study abroad opportunities to enhance her love of travel. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing video games, practicing music, working out, and spending time with friends and family.
