How to Get Mileage Reimbursement in Florida Workers' Comp Claims employment attorney lawyer law firm orlando workers' compensation floridaHas workers’ comp paid your mileage yet?

Mileage reimbursement is just one of several benefits that the workers’ comp insurance company should be providing you.

You can receive reimbursement for the expense of driving to doctor appointments if the doctor appointment is related to your on-the-job injury. Mileage is paid to injured workers to compensate for the trips made to doctors, therapy, and pharmacies.

The first step to receiving mileage reimbursement is to log your miles on a mileage claim form.

How to Get Mileage Reimbursement in Your Workers’ Comp Claim

Step 1) Download my sample mileage claim form here. You can use this to log your miles to and from your workers’ comp authorized doctor’s appointments.

Step 2) On your mileage claim form, make sure to write down the date of the doctor’s appointment in the first column.

Step 3) Write down the location of the appointment. Make sure to write the actual address of the doctor’s office. For example, write “1285 N Orange Ave Winter Park, FL 32789” not “Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic.”

Step 4) Write down the total mileage. The miles logged must begin from where you left from and back. If you ran an errand on your way to the doctor appointment, you cannot calculate that mileage in.

Step 5) Submit the form to the workers’ comp insurance company for consideration.

If workers’ comp has not paid you any mileage, or even notified you that they can pay for your mileage, I’m sad to say I’m not surprised…

Always remember: You should never consider the workers’ comp insurance company as an entity that is representing your interests and giving you a full range of options and benefits. Workers’ comp law is NOT designed to get you well and most workers’ comp insurance companies are not focused on getting you the best care with the best doctors. Instead, the insurance company’s main responsibility is to provide the minimum care the law requires it to pay.
